Islander of the Month
The purpose of the ISLANDER OF THE MONTH COMMITTEE,
which falls under Vocational Service, is to honor outstanding High
School Students based on scholastic achievement, school and community
activities, leadership and other personal attributes and accomplishments.
The program functions as follows:
- Monthly during the school year a Committee at the High School
consisting of two students (Juniors), two Teachers, the school
librarian and the school Principal review nominations submitted
by students and select the boy and girl of the month.
- On the first Tuesday of each month, the two selected students,
their parents and a teacher selected by the two honorees are invited
to lunch at a regular meeting.
- After general introductions, the teacher introduces the honorees
who in turn give a brief overview of their activities, interests
and future plans.
Subsequently the students have pictures taken by the Mercer Island
Reporter for publication.
