Wheelchairs for Guatemala

The Mercer Island Rotary Club, along with the high school interact club raised over $11,000 to send wheelchairs to Guatemala. We partnered with the Rotary club of Mill Creek and the University Rotary Club and the Guatemala East Rotary Club to send a container of Wheelchairs to Guatemala. Our club sent three Rotarians that joined a delegation of Rotarians from the Mill Creek and University clubs to deliver the Wheelchairs to the needy of Guatemala.

We spent a week in February 2006 as guests of the Guatemala East Rotary Club. We got to see some of the country and delivered school supplies from the Interact club to a local school, clothes to an orphanage, and wheelchairs in several locations in Guatemala City and Antigua. A video was made of our activities in country and this was brought back and shown at the Mercer Island Rotary Club meeting. We had nearly 100 % participation from club members who supported this venture by purchasing wheelchairs to be donated to the needy..
